Weekend Update Aug 27, 2019
Hello parents and families,
What a fun week! Beginning 6th and 7th grade students picked out their instruments this week and returning 7th and 8th grade students are playing together again. Lot's of important information below about instruments, books and polo shirts, so be sure to read all the way to the bottom.
Parents of beginning students, we will have rental night on Friday, August 30th from 4:30-6:30pm in the band room. Music and Arts will be there for instrument rentals and supplies. Rocky Mountain Music Repair will also be there to inspect used instruments that your family may have and can give you a repair estimate on the spot, they also sell supplies and high quality used instruments at affordable prices, do repairs and some rentals.
If you cannot make it to rental night, please rent your child an instrument as soon as possible and have it ready for them at school by Tuesday, September 3rd. There is a list of music stores in the handbook where you can rent an instrument and get supplies. I do ask beginning students to keep their instruments at school for a few days while we learn how to put them together, put them away, and make basic sounds. This is primarily a safety issue so that nothing is damaged before we know what we are doing. If an instrument is broken it usually means about a week in the repair shop and your child doesn't get to play it. On the safety note, please do not try to repair instruments at home. Take them to a qualified repair shop that has trained instrument technicians and the proper tools.
Please also make sure that you send book money with your child as soon as possible. $10 for beginning 6th, beginning 7th graders and all 8th graders. Returning 7th graders do not need to bring book money at this time, we will transition to book 2 later in the school year and I will be in touch about that when the time comes.
Handbook signature sheets were due Friday. If you have not completed this with your child, please do this as soon as possible. You can download a copy of the handbook from the website if needed.
Raptor Band polo shirts are required uniform for all performances and can be ordered through the band this year, no online orders. The cost is $25, see the attached order form for more information. If money is an issue for your family with instrument rental, the polo shirt or book please let me know and I will do everything I can to help your student be successful in band this year. I never want money to be the reason a student doesn't play in the band.
